Union leaders spend union dues throwing lavish parties for themselves.  In September 2014, CNA held meetings for its leaders in Las Vegas, at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.  CNA’s 2015 tax forms show the union paid the casino more than $1.58 million that year, presumably for that convention.  In the same tax year, the union also paid $1.26 million to the Marriott Hotel in Bethesda, MD for meetings there.

Overall, CNA spent at least $6.4 million in union members’ money on airlines, hired cars, hotels and resorts in 2015.

Staff retreats at luxurious seaside hideaways, conferences held at posh ski resorts and extended stays in palatial hotels are just some of the ways CNA executives spend our union dues.

It appears CNA holds their staff retreat at the Seascape Resort in Aptos almost every year. According to their website, Seascape is a “luxury resort” composed of “spacious suites and beach villas”.

A review of the 2009 LM-2 filed by CNA shows they spent $244,613 at Seascape, California for a “Staff Retreat.” A review of CNA’s 2008 LM-2 shows they spent nearly a quarter of million dollars ($244,970) at Seascape Beach Resort that year.   Read more »  |  Read more »

A review of the 2011 LM-2 filed by CNA shows they spent $218,566 at Seascape Resort in Aptos, California for a “Staff Retreat.” A review of CNA’s 2012 LM-2 shows they spent $64,503 at the resort that year.  Read more »  |  Read more »

A review of CNA’s LM-2 filed for 7/1/2012 to 6/30/2013 shows a “lodging” charge for Bay Street Apartments in Emeryville in the amount of $5,845 on 3/28/2013, 4/26/2013, 5/24/2013, and 6/21/2013.  Read more »

This coincides with the time period between when DeMoro sold her prior home in Orinda and before her home in Berryessa Estates was fully completed and before she purchased her condo in Napa.  Read more »

A review of the Bay Street Apartments shows a month rent of $5,845 is a couple thousand dollars more than the rent on the highest priced apartment, which is a two-bedroom listed at up to $3,625 per month.

A further review of the website shows that Bay Street Apartments offers short-term furnished apartments, however the cost is not listed. In addition to her salary of hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and her husband’s salary of hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, were union dues paying for Rose Ann DeMoro’s housing costs too?

A review of CNA’s 2011 LM-2 shows $27,318 was paid to Sugarloaf in Maine for a conference. According to their website, Sugarloaf Mountain Resort is one of the top year-round destinations in New England.

A review of CNA’s Form 990 tax forms also show salaries paid to officers has increased at a greater rate than the salaries paid to other employees.

While Rose Ann DeMoro talks on behalf of National Nurses United about the evils of top 1% of wage earners, RoseAnn DeMoro and her husband have a salary that puts them well into the top 1% of earners, while they live in a newly-built, gated, million-dollar estate on a Napa County mountaintop – and potentially spend their weekdays in a fully-paid union apartment on the edge of San Francisco Bay.  Read more »
